Why I decided to pursue Software Engineering

Let me start off with something interesting; I moved to the US only this January. Prior to that, I used to live in Saudi Arabia with my family and prior to that I was studying in India. So after my schooling in Saudi Arabia, I moved to India for my Bachelors degree in commerce and then went ahead to do Masters in Business Administration (Finance).

The point of saying all this is that then I never much thought about what I’m passionate about or do I even enjoy the field I am pursuing. I just did it because we have got to do something with our lives, right? Later on I came across people in my life that were building stuff like web applications and websites and just deploying it to the world and they were so good at it, I found myself wishing I had chosen a different path but thought it could not be possible.

And then I moved to the United States of America. I spoke to people who changed their careers in their 40s! People were studying in their 50s trying to learn a new interest or gain knowledge about a subject they didn’t have much clue about and they seemed so driven. I thought back about my own interests and looked up courses on Coursera and Udemy about coding and programming. I also have unwavering support from my spouse who always pushes me to achieve my dreams. Initially it was something I only wanted to try out to see if I will be good at it and then it became something I decided I really want to be great in; not just ordinary. So we started looking into bootcamps that are designed for people like me who are looking into changing their careers.

I feel like I haven’t given my all or tried to reach my maximum potential in any field up till now. Now with Flatiron, I have been given this opportunity where I can actually grow and build programs. I have always been a gamer, ever since I was a child. Making games or entering the gaming industry would be a dream come true for me.

It’s gonna be challenging and I truly don’t know how it’s gonna turn out but I want to give this my all. Anyone can be ordinary, I want to be more than that. And most of all, I want to learn and grow. Not settle. That is probably going to be my motto through this.

I am glad that we are being asked to write these blog posts so whenever I am down I can come back to this and remember how I want to be extraordinary at this and give it my all. Chin up always.
